NEWS

Rene Pearce Charity Trial including Youth D Championship & Youth E \ OSET
Sunday 21st September. Permit 206107

Mud glorious mud!

After a few days of torrential rain, the 12-section course became incredibly muddy in places creating some extremely slippery conditions to test the field of riders. There was a smattering of rain to start with but then we were blessed with a dry day.

Thank you to all the observers and to all those who entered, especially visitors from Launceston and Holsworthy clubs, your support is greatly appreciated and through everyone’s generosity the amount raised for Care for Kids North Devon is currently at about £448 – FANTASTIC thank you everybody! This now brings the total raised by our annual charity trial to over £15,000.00.

Thank you so much to John & Gill Sabotig who host the charity trial every year. Sadly, and much to his frustration, John was unable to participate this year because of his very recent knee operation – best wishes to John for a speedy recovery. Finally thank you to everyone who helped to prepare the course, particularly Stuart Cann, who stood in for John; mustered many of the observers on this occasion and encouraged quite a few of our riders to enter – phew!

Go to the EVENTS RESULTS page for the final results.

Ray Chapman

"The Club is very sad to announce the recent death of our Club President Ray Chapman. Ray passed away after a short illness on Sunday the 17th of August at the age of 95. Ray was involved in the club practically from ‘day one’ when the club began in 1957 although it took me a little while to really become aware of Ray due to his quiet, unassuming nature. Although Ray did not ride bikes he always helped with all aspects of the club which included scrambling in those early days. Ray observed whenever he could and continued to be active within the club up until about 2021, he will be sadly missed.”
John Luckett, Director

Vice President Allen Boycott and Director John Luckett will represent the Club at Ray's funeral which will take place at 12:15 hours on the 9th of September at the North Devon Crematorium followed by a wake at Torridge Vale Social Club, Torrington. Ray's family have said it was Ray's wish that those wanting to pay their respects should donate to the Devon Air Ambulance. The club will donate £100 in memory and with grateful thanks to Ray for his significant contribution to the club.
